Vietnam — 30-4 Park, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam

The place to hang out in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)?

September 2015

30-4 Park was an interesting place and, as far as I could tell, was just called 30-4 Park, which is an odd name. Does it have some meaning from history that I did not understand?

30-4 Park seemed to be the place for young people to hang out on a Sunday morning. The park was very close to Nhà Thờ Đức Bà Sài Gòn (Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica) and the Bưu Điện Sài Gòn (Saigon Central Post Office).

There were many young couples 30-4 Park. Some were in bands, and some were sitting with friends having a cold drink and eating snacks. And there was also a rather intriguing use of newspapers to make little “picnic rugs” on the ground.

If you are in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on a Sunday morning and are near Nhà Thờ Đức Bà Sài Gòn (Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica), then I would recommend popping along to 30-4 Park to see the residents of the city at play and relaxing. If you are a ‘people watcher’ or a street photographer, it is a superb place to watch and take candid photographs.
