Skiing — Park City, Utah — My most mad ski trip yet?

Travelling from Malaysia to the US to go skiing?

February 2015

I blame this one on my 'ski buddy'.

At Christmas, my ski buddy said:

“I’m at a conference in Las Vegas for a week in February, then I have a free week, then another conference in Las Vegas. Do you fancy joining me to go skiing in that free week?"

I thought about it and said:

"Yes!"

Now the reasons this was so nuts were:

  1. The nearest good skiing to Las Vegas I know of is at least 8 hours away by car.
  2. At the time, I was living in Malaysia. And the time difference between Malaysia and Las Vegas was Malaysia was 16 hours ahead. That is, Las Vegas was a long, long way away.

It must have been nuts to attempt this trip.

I looked at flights.

It was doable.

From Kuala Lumpur, the cost was £2,400 return via Europe. From Singapore, via Hing Kong, it was £750 return.

So, Singapore to Las Vegas it was.

Why is it so expensive to go from Kuala Lumpur? No idea.

From Singapore, the flight was routed to Hong Kong, 3 hours and 45 minutes flying time, and then there was a 3-hour layover. From Hong Kong to San Francisco, it was 11 hours and 50 minutes. In San Francisco, I would have a 2 hour and 30 minutes layover before my 1 hour and 40 minutes flight to Las Vegas. Total airport-to-airport travelling time was 22 hours and 45 minutes. Total time in the air — 17 hours and 15 minutes. Doable. Just.

Yep, I was nuts.
