Below St Paul’s Church, Malacca, is the Porta De Santiago (A Famosa Fortress), Malacca, Malaysia. I found it odd to see something so old and not Malaysian and European (if not South American) in a town in Malaysia.
The inscription on the building reads:
”The only remaining part of the ancient fortress of Malacca built by Alfonso d’Alboquerque and by him named Famosa, 1511. Near this stood the bastion of Santiago.”
Small but interesting and oddly out of place.
